MUA Pro-Base Prime & Conceal

Hey guys! This is my first blog post in a while, although it isn’t a difficult, in-depth one I’ve struggled to find the time to sit and write one! But now that I finally have, this is just a short and sweet review of the MUA Pro-Base Prime & Conceal range.

If you read my review on the Sleek Colour Corrector Palette back in November, you will know what my skin problems are! Bright red cheeks, large red spots, dark under eyes… the list seems to go on. For those of you who haven’t read it here is a little snippet as this review is going to link back to the Sleek Palette Review Post quite often:

“I’m not going to lie about the fact I have only recently discovered how amazing colour correcting is and now I can’t live without doing it on a daily basis. I suffer from really bad red cheeks – it isn’t a heat controlled thing, as a natural ginger I have naturally rosy cheeks, which I have always tried to cover with layer upon layer of foundation and powder.

As well as rosy cheeks I often break out in horrible, large red spots which as we all know aren’t easy to cover! I have always attempted to cover them in a bog standard porcelain concealer which in most cases just made my skin dry.”

Since reviewing the Sleek Palette in November I’ve been buying one on average every 6 weeks. Which isn’t necessarily a big problem as it is only £7.99… however, I was only buying a new one for the yellow and green compartment, all of the other colours were practically un touched.

I colour correct everyday. Because of how naturally red my cheeks are I need a green layer underneath my foundation to neutralise it, adding this green layer is a lot easier than building my foundation up layer by layer – resulting in a cakey finish!

The Barry M Flawless Colour Correcting Primer is a great product for this; another colour correcting product I will be reviewing soon!

Since reviewing the Sleek Palette I have been exploring different ranges and their colour correcting products. Here is one of the latest I have tried…

The MUA Pro-Base Prime & Conceal.

Although the Barry M Colour Correcting Primer is great for an all over layer, it isn’t pigmented enough to fully neutralise dark red spots or dark under eye circles. However, the MUA Pro-Base Prime and Conceal products are great for concentrating on small areas that need the extra coverage. They are extremely thick and creamy! For a bargain of £2 each!

I always worry that cheap products won’t agree with my skin, I have Combination Skin which can sometimes make it a nightmare finding the right product. Products that won’t make my skin dry out but won’t enhance any oily patches, despite the low price tag this range is not low in quality. I think they’re great!

I use the green one on the extremely red areas on my cheeks and on large red spots, like I would a concealer. I use the yellow one for brightening my dark under eyes, although orange is the recommended colour for dark under eyes I find yellow compliments the rest of my skin better. I colour correct after I have primed: prime, colour correct, conceal then foundation! This ensures all of my spots and redness is covered well. But of course do it in whatever order is best for you.

The MUA Pro-Base Prime and Conceal range consists of four colours – yellow, green, peach and lilac. I have tried and tested the yellow and green because they target the areas I am most conscious about.

In comparison to the Sleek Palette, I think the product itself is on parr; despite the difference in price. You also get a lot more for your money with the MUA products. Unfortuntly Sleek doesn’t offer the colours featured in their palette in individual units, meaning that if you only use the yellow and green (for example) like myself, you won’t get many of it and a palette full of colours you wont use. So because of this I favour the MUA products a little more.

Swatch time! I have photographed both a natural light and flash swatch so you can really see how pigmented these little beauties are!

So if you’re looking for an introductory product to colour correcting or looking for a cheaper alternative to a product you already use, I would definitely recommend these little gems from MUA. Not only are they a great price but they last a surprising amount of time, I was expecting them to be a monthly purchase but for their size they contain just enough – I do apply mine in small doses using a concealer brush!

For anyone that doesn’t really understand what different colours are for, the below graphic is great! Especially when you are looking for a solution to an area you may be self-conscious about and need to know what product to buy to hide these areas!

I would love to know what colour correcting products you use! I will be featuring the Barry M Flawless Colour Correcting Primer soon on Sophie Loves Beauty x

Why I Took A 6 Month Break From Blogging

I’ve finally found the time to sit down and just type… And it feels good! I always knew blogging was going to be demanding, especially if I wanted to be consistent and develop it into something special but for the past 6 months I just couldn’t get my head in the game! I just needed to chill, and as every blogger knows it can sometimes be demanding; keeping up with emails from different companies, interacting with other bloggers, keep your social media up to date. You really are the admin, marketing, creator of your own little world/ business. A number of things have contributed to me needing a small break from blogging…

I work 9-5 but have the worst sleep pattern on the planet… I would get in from work and crash. I mean literally crash out and not wake up until 8/9 at night, then I’m WIDE AWAKE until 1/2 in the morning! So of course, then I am seriously tired the next day and do the same. It was a constant cycle of being exhausted when I got in from work, then wide awake at daft’o’clock in the morning!

I have really been trying to improve my health. Not only from a “sleep pattern” perspective but my weight and overall fitness. Having hyperthyroidism has been a real struggle for me; it definitely contributes to my fatigue, but my weight has been an issue for a couple of years. In the New Year I vouched to lose 30lbs this year! I need to. So I have been concentrating on just generally getting fitter.

The past month or two I have slowed down but I have lost a total of 13lbs, which I am really happy with because I am so close to half of my 30lb goal! I have needed to change my diet and improve my fitness for a long time. I have found been using Protein World shakes and porridge and LOVE IT! It is the one “diet range” that I have been able to stick to and really enjoy using it! I have tried the Chocolate shakes, Salted Caramel, Vanilla and Latte. I live for the chocolate porridge with some strawberries for my breakfast, which I never used to eat! I won’t deny the fact that I am still quite bad, my diet definitely still needs improving but it is miles away from how bad it used to be! The gym is still my worst nightmare… I have 3/4 weeks that I love going and will go literally everyday, then I will have 3/4 weeks where I can’t stand the thought of going because of how tired I am!

But I am feeling extremely positive and ready to continue my journey to becoming healthier! So now that I’m feeling a littler more positive about my lifestyle I have jumped back on my laptop and decided I am ready to pick back up the mad world of blogging.

I didn’t plan to stop blogging for so long I just couldn’t find a second to do it! I’ve needed to concentrate on myself and get myself to a happy place for ages! I have so many drafts in the back-end of my blog that I am looking forward to picking up and getting published! I haven’t checked my emails for 6 months… horrendous I know! So I am slowly but surely catching up! Some times I forget that this is my blog and that I can do things in my own time and at my own pace. The pressure can be crazy!

But hopefully I can finally get my head back into the game and enjoy blogging again… when I have the time!

Christmas Decor Hacks

Christmas is fast approaching and I can’t wait to get the tree up, brighten the house up with Christmas lights, and spread festivity EVERYWHERE! Even the bathroom gets given a festive touch.

But we all know how expensive Christmas is and if you’re like me; you dread having to part with so much money for one day and plead for January payday. It can become so stressful making your pay check stretch. Which is why I hate splashing out on Christmas decor for it to sit in a box for 11 out of 12 months of the year. Why can’t we become DIY enthusiasts or savvy at Christmas and not splash out? I have put together some ideas that have inspired me to become more conscious of the price of decorations this Christmas… and in some cases, they are just plain genius! Bootea Bundle Box

I have used a couple of the Bootea products before and was really impressed with the results. I used the 14 day teatox (£19.99) about 6 months ago and lost 9.5lbs – this was with little exercise and a slight change to my diet. I used the Bootea Shake but only for 5 days, but I still lost 3.5lbs. The reason I didn’t use the shake for the full 2 weeks worth of shakes is because I really didn’t enjoy the flavour! It is a shame Bootea don’t offer a variety of flavours for people who aren’t that keen on berry flavoured things. But this time I am determined to continue the full 14 days because the results will be worth it.

Garnier Olia 7.40 Intense Copper

I have been dying my hair for around 6 years now. My natural colour is a nice bright ginger, a dark auburn. Of course, when I was 12/13 ginger was not a popular hair colour and I was sick of putting up with the name calling and jokes so I died my hair JET BLACK! When I think about it now I have no idea why! But I wanted to do it despite most of my family telling me not to.

A year went by and I was sick of having to top up my roots all the time. Black hair with ginger roots was not a good luck! Also my complexion did not suit jet black hair at all – I’ve never watched the Addams Family but my dad said I look like the mother! So I needed to get rid of it. I tried stripping my hair with “Colour B4” which turned my hair a brassy orange colour – and made my hair look like straw! I used Colour B4 twice in a desperate bid to get back to something similar to my dark auburn hair! But no luck – so I had to chop the lot; from hair down to the top of my bum to a pixie cut – hoping it will grow back quicker and restore my natural colour.
