MUA Pro-Base Prime & Conceal

Hey guys! This is my first blog post in a while, although it isn’t a difficult, in-depth one I’ve struggled to find the time to sit and write one! But now that I finally have, this is just a short and sweet review of the MUA Pro-Base Prime & Conceal range.

If you read my review on the Sleek Colour Corrector Palette back in November, you will know what my skin problems are! Bright red cheeks, large red spots, dark under eyes… the list seems to go on. For those of you who haven’t read it here is a little snippet as this review is going to link back to the Sleek Palette Review Post quite often:

“I’m not going to lie about the fact I have only recently discovered how amazing colour correcting is and now I can’t live without doing it on a daily basis. I suffer from really bad red cheeks – it isn’t a heat controlled thing, as a natural ginger I have naturally rosy cheeks, which I have always tried to cover with layer upon layer of foundation and powder.

As well as rosy cheeks I often break out in horrible, large red spots which as we all know aren’t easy to cover! I have always attempted to cover them in a bog standard porcelain concealer which in most cases just made my skin dry.”

Since reviewing the Sleek Palette in November I’ve been buying one on average every 6 weeks. Which isn’t necessarily a big problem as it is only £7.99… however, I was only buying a new one for the yellow and green compartment, all of the other colours were practically un touched.

I colour correct everyday. Because of how naturally red my cheeks are I need a green layer underneath my foundation to neutralise it, adding this green layer is a lot easier than building my foundation up layer by layer – resulting in a cakey finish!

The Barry M Flawless Colour Correcting Primer is a great product for this; another colour correcting product I will be reviewing soon!

Since reviewing the Sleek Palette I have been exploring different ranges and their colour correcting products. Here is one of the latest I have tried…

The MUA Pro-Base Prime & Conceal.

Although the Barry M Colour Correcting Primer is great for an all over layer, it isn’t pigmented enough to fully neutralise dark red spots or dark under eye circles. However, the MUA Pro-Base Prime and Conceal products are great for concentrating on small areas that need the extra coverage. They are extremely thick and creamy! For a bargain of £2 each!

I always worry that cheap products won’t agree with my skin, I have Combination Skin which can sometimes make it a nightmare finding the right product. Products that won’t make my skin dry out but won’t enhance any oily patches, despite the low price tag this range is not low in quality. I think they’re great!

I use the green one on the extremely red areas on my cheeks and on large red spots, like I would a concealer. I use the yellow one for brightening my dark under eyes, although orange is the recommended colour for dark under eyes I find yellow compliments the rest of my skin better. I colour correct after I have primed: prime, colour correct, conceal then foundation! This ensures all of my spots and redness is covered well. But of course do it in whatever order is best for you.

The MUA Pro-Base Prime and Conceal range consists of four colours – yellow, green, peach and lilac. I have tried and tested the yellow and green because they target the areas I am most conscious about.

In comparison to the Sleek Palette, I think the product itself is on parr; despite the difference in price. You also get a lot more for your money with the MUA products. Unfortuntly Sleek doesn’t offer the colours featured in their palette in individual units, meaning that if you only use the yellow and green (for example) like myself, you won’t get many of it and a palette full of colours you wont use. So because of this I favour the MUA products a little more.

Swatch time! I have photographed both a natural light and flash swatch so you can really see how pigmented these little beauties are!

So if you’re looking for an introductory product to colour correcting or looking for a cheaper alternative to a product you already use, I would definitely recommend these little gems from MUA. Not only are they a great price but they last a surprising amount of time, I was expecting them to be a monthly purchase but for their size they contain just enough – I do apply mine in small doses using a concealer brush!

For anyone that doesn’t really understand what different colours are for, the below graphic is great! Especially when you are looking for a solution to an area you may be self-conscious about and need to know what product to buy to hide these areas!

Makeup Revolution Eyeshadow Palette – Fortune Favours The Brave

So I am going to talk a little about the Fortune Favours The Brave Makeup Revolution Eyeshadow Palette. I have been wanting to buy a Makeup Revolution Eyeshadow Palette for a while now only because they are such an amazing price, and let’s face it – we all LOVE a bargain! I just couldn’t resist this gorgeous looking one for only £9.99(!!!).  As much as I love the Urban Decay palettes £40 a piece a little too steep for me especially as I have only recently started wearing eyeshadow everyday.

Ciaté Nail Polish Advent Calendar

The past couple of months have been mega busy; from stressing over my driving test; (which I PASSED) to finalising my Marketing Apprenticeship to house hunting, I have had barely anytime to happily chill! I have had a small break from blogging but I have finally managed to get round to reviewing the Ciate Nail Polish Advent Calendar.

The original price of the calendar was £42.00 which I just couldn’t justify as I rarely did my nails myself. But as soon as I found it in TK MAXX for a steal of Continue reading “Ciaté Nail Polish Advent Calendar”

My Lip Filler Experience

I have always wanted nice fuller lips – even before this whole “Kylie Jenner” lip obsession came in. It’s been something that’s made me very self conscious for a while, so I would constantly over draw my lip liner; which we all know looks CRAP! Before I was 18 (and legal to have lip filler) I vowed that as soon as I could I will book myself in and “just go for it”. But then I read into it more and the possible side effects and the procedure. I am PETRIFIED

Colour B4 Hair Colour Removal – Extra Strength

After my small disaster with the Garner Olia Intense Copper I had to hide the fluorescent orange mess that was on my head. I never wanted to go a dark colour because I have been dark brown / black before and when I want a change it feels impossible to shift without using bleach.

I used Colour B4 around 41/2 years ago when I died my hair jet black. I don’t completely Continue reading “Colour B4 Hair Colour Removal – Extra Strength”

Garnier Olia 7.40 Intense Copper

I have been dying my hair for around 6 years now. My natural colour is a nice bright ginger, a dark auburn. Of course, when I was 12/13 ginger was not a popular hair colour and I was sick of putting up with the name calling and jokes so I died my hair JET BLACK! When I think about it now I have no idea why! But I wanted to do it despite most of my family telling me not to.

A year went by and I was sick of having to top up my roots all the time. Black hair with ginger roots was not a good luck! Also my complexion did not suit jet black hair at all – I’ve never watched the Addams Family but my dad said I look like the mother! So I needed to get rid of it. I tried stripping my hair with “Colour B4” which turned my hair a brassy orange colour – and made my hair look like straw! I used Colour B4 twice in a desperate bid to get back to something similar to my dark auburn hair! But no luck – so I had to chop the lot; from hair down to the top of my bum to a pixie cut – hoping it will grow back quicker and restore my natural colour.
